A Diamond is but a Stone

People will spend thousands of dollars on diamonds, when really, they are a common entity in our world. I took inspiration from Kirsten Hassenfeld, a New York based artist who makes beautiful and ornate lanterns.

I am comparing the true lack of value in a diamond to that of the worthlessness in the tissue and bamboo in my lanterns. By taking these materials and making them desirable, the lantern then becomes something of value when in reality, it isn't worth much and is very breakable.
